Opportunities for Rural Businesses in the South West

There are lots of good opportunities for rural businesses to grow and be recognised however it can be hard to sort the wheat from the chaff sometimes. Here, we are pulling together some of the current opportunities for your rural business that we think you might be interested in!

Woodland Creation Grants:

The woodland creation grant is a standalone capital grant under Countryside Stewardship. Farmers and other land managers can apply for a 2 year capital works programme to plant and protect young trees. If you’re eligible, a supporting maintenance grant of £200 per hectare for 10 years may also be available. Apply for woodland creation funding for 2018 from 2 January to 16 February 2018 and make sure you read the manual that goes with this grant application: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/countryside-stewardship-woodland-creation-grant-manual-2018

The Prince’s Countryside Fund:

The Prince’s Countryside Fund provides more than £1m in grants each year to projects across the UK. We have grants of up to £50,000 available for innovative projects that will provide a lasting legacy to the individuals and communities they seek to benefit. The Fund will be open for grant applications from April 30th to June 14th 2018 http://www.princescountrysidefund.org.uk/grant-giving-programme/grant-programme

Additional funding is available outside of this period for community projects aimed at reducing isolation in deprived rural areas through the Rural Four project funded by Players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Love the Flavour Food and Drink Awards 2018:

Enhance Social Enterprise Programme

The Enhance Social Enterprise programme delivers business support and advice to new and established social enterprises within the Heart of South West LEP area. Enhance Social Enterprise has received funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in order to increase the number of social enterprise start-ups and to support the growth of existing ones. Existing social enterprises will be supported to develop and launch new products and services as well as entering new markets. There will also be support for voluntary and community sector groups that want to transition into trading social enterprises as well as budding social entrepreneurs in need of help to develop their ideas to start trading. Rural Business Awards 2018

Opened in November 2017 the Rural Business Awards can be entered until 31st May 2018. Created and set up by Directors and Co-Founders Jemma Clifford & Anna Price, the aim of the Rural Business Awards is to give recognition to businesses operating right across the Rural sector.
