We at the DR Company are very excited to see that five of the shortlisted producers for the 2017 Devon Food and Drink Awards are businesses we have helped to successfully apply for funding. Most recently, Hunts Cider and the Devon Distillery were awarded funding from the South Devon Coastal LAG 2015-2020 and Clive’s Pies in Buckfastleigh successfully applied for money through the Greater Dartmoor LEAF 2015-2020. We also helped two further businesses on the shortlist, the South Devon Chilli Farm and Yarde Cider, to successfully apply for grants from since closed funding programmes.
When Hunt’s Cider bought a new filter earlier this year with funding from the South Devon Coastal LAG they improved both the quality of their product as well as increasing the efficiency of their production. This in turn has enabled the business to take on a new full time marketing manager and a part time delivery driver in addition to the existing team. The recent launch of their fruit ciders continues the fantastic success story of the family run cider business that began in 1805 and has in recent years boosted the local economy.
“The funding from South Devon Coastal LAG has enabled us to grow the business, rebrand and employ new staff from the local community”, confirms Sales Director Annette Hunt. “We are anticipating that the ciders are going to be very popular amongst our existing customer base and will attract those who haven’t yet tried our ciders. We are really proud that we are selling local products to such a high standard and that we are in turn contributing to the local economy.”
Hunt’s Cider is also up for Best Packaging, and Devon Distillery for Best Overall Producer in the 2017 Producer’s category. The Devon Distillery successfully applied for funding from the South Devon Coastal LAG to create the UK’s first and only mobile gin distillery to be used at events, weddings and festivals.
